Described variously as: “the ride of several lifetimes”; “one of the most exhilarating, discombobulating, potentially even life-changing theatrical experiences going” and “a Kafkaesque theatrical cult”, You Me Bum Bum Train (YMBBT) is back for 2024 and we are thrilled to be their associate partner.
How did the partnership come about?
Our partnership was born out of three common goals:
We care about the potential of young people to do great things
We want to raise money for charities in a way that goes against the norm
We believe in the power of collaboration between art, business and charity to create positive social impact.
If you’re not familiar with the show, this secretive immersive theatre sensation was dreamed up by art students Kate Bond and Morgan Lloyd in 2004 and has reincarnated in several locations over the years. Ticket-holders, or “passengers” as YMBBT calls them, are whisked on an individual journey through a rapid succession of scenarios. It’s a huge cult hit that’s been nominated for an Olivier Award, as well as winning an Evening Standard Theatre Award and a Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Prize.
We can’t tell you much more than that because we’ve been sworn to secrecy, but as one reviewer once said: “It’s like being alone in a combination of Disneyland and Banksy’s Dismaland, without any queues – except, that is, to get a ticket.” The show always sells out in seconds, but as a fan of Raise Your Hands, the YMBBT team have kept a few back exclusively for us, as well as access to organising private nights for groups.
